COLBERT UNITED METHODIST WOMEN
|
Our group has been busy responding to several needs
in our community. We donated money for the Teacher
Appreciation activity sponsored by the Madison
County Chamber of Commerce. This event recognizes
all in our county that work with the school system,
teachers, bus drivers, Para pros, maintenance
department, lunchroom staffs and all that help with
education in our county. We donated to the family of
Victoria Hinsley (toddler injured in home accident).
We sent money to support the Samaritan's Purse
organization that helps around the world.
We hosted the Welcome Back Ice cream social in honor
of Jim, Chris, and Michael. We thank all that
participated in any way. It was a great evening and
we enjoyed fun, fellowship, and great homemade ice
cream and all kinds of goodies.
We hosted a shower for Rusty Goss and Jackie Story
on September 16 and we will host a wedding shower
for Mitchell Meadow and Dorothy Clark on September
30. Thanks to all the ladies that help with these
showers.
We purchased two table dollies for our Family Life
Center. We gave a donation to help with expenses for
Michelle Scott to attend the National Youth
Leadership Forum Medicine Seminar next year. We are
very proud of being recognized in this special way.
We continue to remember Barabarianne Russell and her
family. Beth Scott's father, Jerrie Teet's Mother
and Crystal Holcomb's daughter in law are having
health problems. We remember all of these in our
prayers.
Our sympathy goes to Chuck Branson and family at the
loss of his mother.
We are making plans for our upcoming Bazaar in
November. We continue to support the soup kitchen in
Athens. We serve a meal once a month, except for
November, on the fourth Thursday. Our sincere thanks
goes to those that give their time to prepare and
serve these meals. We are very thankful to Jack and
Lois Scaffe for their faithfulness in collecting
aluminum cans and taking them to exchange for cash.
They usually collect 600 - 700 per year for this.
All of this money goes to help with expenses at the
soup kitchen. We are blessed to have such hard
working ladies, men and youth in our church family.
